3 Best Food and Health Documentaries:
Forks Over Knives
This documentary is THE quintessential film to learn about the impact of diet on health. It highlights the convergence of science and clinical research as Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a nutritional biochemist from Cornell University, and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, a former top surgeon at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic, separately make discoveries that lead them to the same conclusion. That is, chronic diseases, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes, can almost always be prevented—and in many cases REVERSED—by adopting a whole-food, plant-based diet.
Campbell’s China Study is the most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted, and this film serves as the book’s cliff-notes. And Esselstyn’s long-term study for patients with advanced heart disease adapting a whole-foods plant-based diet showcases the shocking results.
In addition, filmmaker Lee Fulkerson follows everyday Americans with chronic conditions as they seek to reduce their dependence on medications and learn to use a whole-food, plant-based diet to regain control over their health and their lives.
Forks Over Knives, in my opinion, makes the link between diet and health black and white. There is really nothing grey about it. Therefore, it tops my list of best food and health documentaries.

What the Health
This groundbreaking documentary by Kip Anderson and Keegan Kuhn (creators of Cowspiracy) seeks to expose the shocking cover-up by national health organizations, pharmaceutical companies, the factory farming industry, and our government to hide and confuse the link between diet and health…a truth worth billions of dollars. This investigative film is disturbing and captivating.
However, one point of criticism I have for this work is that in persisting for the truth, the filmmakers come off a bit abrasive towards the frontline employees of the organizations who answer the phone or greet them at the reception desk.
Still, this is one of the best food documentaries as it’s discoveries of deception and corruption should be visible to every American.

The Game Changers
And finally, elite athleticism and optimal physical performance intersect with nutrition and the result is WILDLY entertaining in fitness documentary Game Changers. Directed by Academy Award-winning director Louie Psihoyos (The Cove), the film’s executive producers are James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, and Chris Paul. The documentary follows James Wilks, elite Special Forces trainer and The Ultimate Fighter winner, on his pursuit to discover the ideal diet for human performance.
From top athletes and special operations soldiers to visionary scientists and cultural icons, the stories are enlightening, inspiring, and captivating. The documentary showcases results of a plant-based diet, including physical strength, agility, recovery, sex drive, health, and astounding record-setting achievements.
